A man sits on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle at a dealership in Los Angeles, California in this April 24, 2012 file photo. Harley-Davidson has long known its reliance on an overwhelmingly white, male and middle-aged consumer base would ultimately challenge sales in North America, where it still earns two-thirds of its revenue. Disclosure: RideApart has yet to review the latest Softail platform, so this review is to showcase the differences between the Fat Boy S and the Softail Slim S, along with a general review which can apply to a base model Softtail. The new Fat Boy boasts some fancy new brush-work and is available in ‘Denim Black' and ‘Vivid Black'. They also generally have a lower percentage of slow-twitch muscle fibers, which preferentially burn fat.
Maybe it was the famous jump off the motorway overpass in the second Terminator movie that triggered my personal affections for the Fat Boy, but it's the quintessential Harley-Davidson for me. There's more attitude to the model thanks to the solid wheels lightened only by an 2016 Harley-Davidson outer ring of holes, and the 200mm-wide back tyre that defines the Fat Boy from lighter-looking Softails like the Slim (maybe Fatboy Slim got his name from the Softail section of the Harley catalogue).

Keihin also distributes products to such companies as Harley Davidson and Kawasaki.
Returning for 2016 with the 1688cc Twin Cam 103 engine are the regular Softail Slim and Fat Boy, the Fat Boy Lo, Softail Deluxe, Heritage Softail Classic, Breakout and Street Bob. Things like the smooth creamy power that seems to wind on and on... a fat power curve all the way from idle to redline. The gloss black 110 cubic inch counter-balanced V-Twin engine on the Fat Boy® S model feeds its sound to the world through 2 into 2 exhaust with blacked out pipes and mufflers.
This is a simple operation that is explained in detail under Harley Carb Jetting Various kits are available to recalibrate the carburetor including those offered by Dynojet, Yost, and the Stage 1 Carb Kit. Worker concessions sought by Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based Harley 2016 Harley-Davidson include a two-tier wage-and-benefit plan. And so Harley is gingerly exploring the possibility of building a bike that foregoes a V-twin.
